Frequently Asked Questions
What will happen on my initial treatment?
At the beginning of each treatment we shall complete a short medical/lifestyle Consultation that will provide some guidance on past issues, areas I need to be aware of and what you hope to achieve from your current and future treatments. Through this open discussion, we can confirm we both have an understanding of what is expected and ensure you get the best out of your treatment. If this is your first experience with Reflexology, I shall also take the time to explain about the therapy itself through the use of visual charts, it’s history and the benefits Reflexology can offer. The treatment will then be carried out (including warming both feet, working the right and then left foot independently and finishing with a relaxing foot massage) after making you comfortable on the couch with pillows and blankets as necessary. Afterwards, you will be assisted from the couch to a chair and offered water or a herbal tea to help bring you back from your experience.
What can I expect from a treatment?
On follow-up treatments we shall complete a quick discussion to note any changes or new issues that need to be considered and anything you enjoyed or did not enjoy from your previous visit. Based on our new knowledge, the treatment will then be carried out (including warming both feet, working the right and then left foot independently and finishing with a relaxing foot massage) after making you comfortable on the couch with pillows and blankets as necessary. Afterwards, you will be assisted from the couch to a chair and offered water or a herbal tea to help bring you back from your experience.
How many treatments will I need to have?
Just as everyone is different so is each body different. The number of treatments a person may need can vary greatly. Some Clients can feel better in themselves right after the first treatment, for others it may take a few weeks or even months. Much will depend on the issue(s), focus and how open a person is to receiving the treatment. Typically, however, a course of 6 treatments would be recommended at the start followed by a treatment once or twice a month as maintenance thereafter.
Are the treatments painful?
Treatments are not usually painful. Some muscles in Aromatherapy or reflexes in Reflexology may be sore or tender whilst working an area, but this just demonstrates an imbalance in the body and the need to correct it. Usually after a few treatments and once the body has rebalanced itself, these areas are no longer problematic.
I have ticklish feet so will I be able to have a Reflexology treatment?
Of course! Reflexology is not designed to be ticklish. The foot is held firmly in the hands and a routine using a ‘thumb-walking’ technique is used to apply pressure to the reflexes of the feet. Even if a Client is ticklish, once they relax into the treatment they tend to forget this is even a problem!
I do not like a lot of oil on my body, face or hair so can this be avoided?
This is not a problem. When working these areas I would just use the minimal amount necessary to carry out the treatment. The Essential Oils used in Aromatherapy are used in conjunction with a Carrier Oil e.g., Sweet Almond Oil. It is the 2 combined together that is applied to the skin to make it more easily absorbable into the body. The Carrier Oils, like the Essential Oils, are all natural and contain nutrients, vitamins and minerals which are good for the skin.
