What will happen on my initial treatment?
Initially we shall complete a short medical / lifestyle consultation that will provide some guidance on past issues, areas I need to be aware of and what you hope to achieve from your current and future treatments. Through this open discussion, we can confirm we both have an understanding of what is expected and ensure you get the best out of your treatment. If this is your first experience with Reflexology, I will also explain about the therapy and its history through the use of visual charts and the benefits Reflexology can offer. For Aromatherapy, it will be about the various Essential Oils and Carrier Oils used and their healing properties when applied topically in a massage or via other products such as creams, sprays and diffusers.
What can I expect from a treatment?
You will always be made to feel welcomed and comfortable in my room. This is your safe space to literally discuss anything. When you are ready to proceed, I will begin by warming and manipulating your feet with my hands – starting with the right foot and then moving across to the left foot. I use a scented wax as a medium for the treatment which allows me to easily flow and work around the feet with my movements. Beginning with the right foot again, I will concentrate on all the organs, glands and systems seen here before completing the same on those of the left foot. To finish and provide that last little bit of relaxation, I offer a foot massage using a scented cream to help ‘lock-in’ the treatment.
How many treatments will I need to have?
The number of treatments a person may need can vary greatly. Some Clients can feel better in themselves right after the first treatment and for others, it may take a few weeks or even months to see positive change. Much will depend on the issue(s) being addressed and how open a person is to receive the treatment. Typically, however, a course of 6 treatments would be recommended to see beneficial results with follow-on treatments being as frequent as once or twice a month or as long as 6-8 weeks between each.
Are the treatments painful?
Treatments are not usually painful. Some reflexes in Reflexology, or muscles in Aromatherapy, may be sore or tender whilst working an area, but this just demonstrates an imbalance in the body and the need to correct it. Usually after a few treatments and once the body has rebalanced itself, these areas are no longer problematic.
I have ticklish feet so will I be able to enjoy Reflexology?
Of course! Reflexology is not designed to be ticklish. Each foot is held firmly in my hands and using a ‘thumb-walking’ technique, pressure is applied in a series of movements to the reflexes to identify and release any imbalances found. Even if a Client is ticklish, once they begin to relax they tend to forget about it.
I do not like a lot of oil on my face or hair so can this be avoided?
Absolutely! When working these areas I will just adapt the treatment to suit the request thus using no oil or the minimal amount needed. The Essential Oils used in my Aromatherapy, work in conjunction with Carrier Oils e.g., Grapeseed Oil and it is the 2 combined together which are applied to the skin to make the Essential Oils more easily absorbable into the body. The Carrier Oils, like the Essential Oils, are all natural and contain nutrients, vitamins and minerals which are good for the skin.
